Big Bang Fans Donates for 'K-Pop Fans for Hurricane Sandy Relief'











During Big Bang's concert on November 8-9 in Newark, New Jersey, a charity clothing drive for the residents affected Hurricane Sandy was held as well. 
Many Big Bang fans and other members of the community helped by donating clothes, supplies, food and others for the residents. 
The charity drive thanked Big Bang because without their concert, people would not have been able to come together to help this cause.

Singer Son Dam Bi's new song has ranked high on real-time music charts.
Yesterday, Son Dam Bi's new song, "Dripping Tears," ranked high on various music charts online, showing her popularity.
Son Dam Bi had to compete against idols and popular singers from "Superstar K4" and still made it to the higher part of the charts. This is her first comeback after 2 years and she is already showing signs of success.

Big Bang to Lee Hi, YG Entertainment Takes Over 2012

 


It seems like YG Entertainment has taken over the charts this year from Big Bang to Lee Hi.
Lee Hi debuted on October 29 with her new song, "1,2,3,4" and has been ranked number 1 on the music charts for 16 days. She has been called the 'monster rookie' as she beat Busker Busker's record of 12 days of being number 1 on the charts. 
Before Lee Hi, Epik High brought out an album on October 19, making it 3 years since they last put out an album. They first released the song, "It's Cold" featuring Lee Hi. With the start of their new album promotions with their double title songs, "UP" and "Don't Hate Me," they ranked high on the charts.
G-Dragon also came out with his 2nd solo album, ONE OF A KIND, and released his song, "That XX," which ranked number 1 on various music sites. On September 15 with the release of his album, he ranked number 1 on a total of 9 charts.
Out of all the YG artists, Psy was the most successful. He released "Gangnam Style" on July 15 and soon enough, the video went viral and his global success began. His music video currently has over 714 million views and is the 2nd most viewed video of all time. He is the first Korean artist to attend the MTV EMA's as well. He is also number 2 on Billboard's main single chart HOT 100 for 7 weeks now.
Big Bang started off this YG craze back in February with the release of their 5th mini album, Alive. After its release, it ranked number 1 on music charts. They also released a special album, Still Alive, in June. 
The very first of YG artists to kick off 2012 was Se7en on February 1. He ranked number 1 on many music charts including the U.S. iTunes R&B category.

U.S. Billboard chose 4minute member HyunA as one of the candidates for Justin Bieber's new girlfriend.
Yesterday, a poll titled, 'Justin Bieber: Who Should be his New Girlfriend?' with the candidates of Carly Rae Jepson, Taylor Swift, 4minute's HyunA and others were listed.
"Many might be wondering how the two would even have a connection. HyunA was featured in Psy's 'Gangnam Style' and Psy is currently signed to Justin Bieber's agency."

U.S Spin Magazine Praises Big Bang, 'K-Pop Heals New Jersey'




World famous music magazine SPIN praised Big Bang's conert in New Jersey.
Yesterday, SPIN released an article titled, 'K-Pop Heals New Jersey' in which it talked about the Big Bang concert held in New Jersey. It stated that this concert 'healed' the state as it had been hit by Hurricane Sandy the week before.
SPIN commented, "Korea's top male group Big Bang successfully finished their concert in New Jersey. They all performed an amazing concert."
They also continued by saying that the 2 hours that they performed was very entertaining and full of energy. Because this was a concert that was held after the hurricane, it holds more meaning to those who attended. Big Bang showed off many different looks and stage performances for their fans.
They also particularly commented on Big Bang's leader, G-Dragon's solo performance. They commented, "G-Dragon's stage performance is one we cannot forget. He is the 'Kanye West' of Korea."

Scandal, What It Says About the Idol Culture




The recent scandal involving IU is making people really think about how the public now views K-Pop idols.
The scandal is mostly caused by the fact that she's a celebrity and one mistakenly uploaded photo on her Twitter now threatens her very reputation. The official statement says that Super Juniormember Eunhyuk and IU are just friends and that they took the picture on her sofa. However, many are saying that the two of them must have taken it on a bed and the media are paying no attention the official statement.
